Pharmacological action

With preventive and medicinal use the drug has immunomodulatory and antiviral effect. Experimentally and clinically established effectiveness against influenza viruses, parainfluenza viruses herpes simplex Types 1 and 2 (labial herpes,), other herpes viruses ( chicken pox, infectious mononucleosis), enteroviruses, virus tick-borne encephalitis, rotavirus, coronavirus, calicivirus, adenovirus, respiratory syncytial virus (RS virus). The drug reduces the concentration of the virus in the affected tissues, affects the system of endogenous interferons and associated cytokines, induces the formation of endogenous “early” interferons (IFN α/β) and interferon gamma (IFN γ).

Stimulates the humoral and cellular immune response. Increases the production of antibodies (including secretory IgA), activates the functions of T-effectors, T-helpers (Tx), normalizes their ratio. Increases the functional reserve of Tx and other cells involved in the immune response. It is an inducer of a mixed Tx1- and Th2-type immune response: it increases the production of Th1 (IFN γ, IL-2) and Th2 (IL-4, 10) cytokines, normalizes (modulates) the balance of Th1/Th2 activities. Increases the functional activity of phagocytes and natural killer cells (NK cells). Has antimutagenic properties.

Anaferon is an antiviral immunomodulatory agent that helps increase the number of antibodies, activate the cellular and humoral components of immunity and the formation of interferon.

Release form and composition

They produce Anaferon for adults and Anaferon for children, both drugs are produced in the form of tablets for sublingual use (20 pieces in blister packs, 1 pack in a cardboard box).

The drug contains affinity purified antibodies to human interferon gamma – 3 mg.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

When using Anaferon as a preventive and remedy it exhibits antiviral and immunomodulatory effects. During various experiments and clinical trials it was found that the drug is effective against respiratory syncytial virus (RS virus), influenza and parainfluenza viruses, adenovirus, herpes simplex viruses types 1 and 2 (genital herpes, labial herpes), other herpes viruses (infectious mononucleosis, chickenpox) , calicivirus, enteroviruses, coronavirus, rotavirus, tick-borne encephalitis virus. The drug reduces the virus content in affected tissues, activates the formation of interferon gamma (IFNγ) and endogenous early interferons (IFNα/β).

The drug is a stimulator of cellular and humoral immune responses, induces the synthesis of antibodies [including secretory immunoglobulin A (IgA)], enhances the functions of T-helpers (Tx) and T-effectors, normalizes their ratio. Anaferon also increases the functional reserve of Th1 and other cells responsible for the immune response, is an inducer of a mixed Th1 and Th2 type of immune response, enhances the production of Th1 (IL-2, IFNγ) and Th2 (IL-4, 10) cytokines, modulates ( leads to standard values) balance of Th1/Th2 activities. The drug increases the functional activity of natural killer cells (NK cells) and phagocytes. It is characterized by antimutagenic properties.

Pharmacokinetics

Modern physical and chemical types of analysis (chromatography-mass spectrometry, high-performance liquid chromatography, gas-liquid chromatography) have a sensitivity that does not allow an accurate assessment of the concentrations of Anaferon’s active components in organs, tissues and biological fluids. In this regard, studying the pharmacokinetic parameters of the drug is not possible.

Indications for use

Anaferon is indicated for both children and adults in the following cases:

  • Complex therapy of mixed and bacterial infections;
  • Treatment of ARVI, influenza, chronic and acute cytomegalovirus and herpes infections;
