Multidisciplinary clinic CELT: we will take care of your baby's health!

Every parent, at least subconsciously, is always afraid that their child will get sick. And this really happens sometimes - children get sick. However, in such cases they do not always require the help of a pediatrician or otolaryngologist. Sometimes you have to contact a doctor such as a gastroenterologist. What kind of specialist is he, what does he treat, and where can I find the best pediatric gastroenterologist?

Who is a gastroenterologist

First of all, it is worth clarifying what kind of doctor a gastroenterologist is and what ailments he treats. After all, not everyone is strong at medical terminology. So, a gastroenterologist (for children or adults, it doesn’t matter) is a specialist who treats the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, he also deals with the prevention of various types of diseases of this body system. The most common disease among them, but by no means the most dangerous, is, perhaps, gastritis. The word "gastroenterologist" in Greek means "womb" (gaster), "gut" (enteron) and "teaching" (logos). From this it turns out that this doctor it just treats organs such as the intestines, gall bladder, esophagus, liver, duodenum and the like.

What diseases can you treat?

As mentioned above, probably the most common reason for contacting (at least to a pediatric gastroenterologist) is gastritis. This is an inflammation of the stomach lining, usually due to poor diet and lifestyle in general. Also, the reason to come to the clinic for an appointment with this doctor may be:

  • stomach ulcer;
  • hepatitis of various types;
  • dysbacteriosis;
  • pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas);
  • stones in the urinary and/or gall bladder;
  • symptom of the so-called acute abdomen(that is, sharp and acute pain), which includes appendicitis, peritonitis and many other diseases.

When you don't have to endure

It's no secret that the mentality of the Russian person is such that he does not like to go to doctors. It would be better to endure until the last minute, and go to a specialist only if it becomes completely unbearable. Still, you should overcome yourself and not wait until it “presses”, but go to the clinic yourself or call a doctor at home. If this advice is relevant for adults, then it is even more important when it comes to the health of a child.

So, in what cases is it necessary to consult a gastroenterologist?

  1. The child complains of abdominal pain that has not gone away for some time and interferes with his ability to ordinary life.
  2. Appetite decreased or disappeared altogether, weight decreased.
  3. In addition to pain, the child often experiences nausea and/or vomiting.
  4. His stomach hurts not only during the day, but also at night, preventing him from sleeping normally.
  5. The child has a history of any (any) gastrointestinal disease.

At an appointment with a specialist

Most often, it is impossible to get to a gastroenterologist without a referral from a pediatrician, therefore, you will first have to visit this doctor. You should have with you medical card and the results of the tests, if, of course, they are available. Important: if white, yellow or any other coating appears on your tongue, you do not need to remove it before visiting a doctor. Examination of the tongue is an indispensable condition of the examination process, as it helps the gastroenterologist to create a more complete and clear picture of what is happening.

Before you rush to use the services of a pediatric gastroenterologist in a hospital hospital at the slightest complaint in a child, you should familiarize yourself with the information below, which, by the way, is a recommendation from specialized specialists.

Firstly, if your baby has a stomach ache and the pain is not sharp or sharp, then there is no need to panic and assume the worst. First, you should call a local doctor from your clinic, he should examine the child and only then decide what to do next. However, if the pain arose suddenly, “out of nowhere”, it is strong, sharp, then there is no need to wait, you need to immediately call an ambulance.

Another tip concerns nutrition. If a child has had stomach problems before and has been prescribed a diet, it is necessary to strictly follow it. In case of deviation from the regime and use forbidden foods One should not be surprised that the child’s old illness has worsened again.

Very often, parents with tiny children, infants under one year old, sign up for a consultation with a pediatric gastroenterologist. Digestive disorders in such babies, as a rule, are caused by the same poor nutrition. The main food for children of this age should remain milk - mother’s milk or formula, it doesn’t matter. Parents, trying to introduce complementary foods as quickly as possible, begin to feed him what the baby’s stomach is not yet ready for. Therefore, there is no need to force things. You need to strictly follow the pediatrician’s recommendations and remember that everything has its time. Then an appointment with a pediatric gastroenterologist will not be necessary later.
