Transporting a dog in a reserved seat carriage. Russian Railways rules for transporting animals on commuter and long-distance trains

When going on vacation or on business to another city, owners often take their pets with them. There are situations when there is no one to leave him with, and special hotels are not available in all cities, and staying in them is not cheap. And some people simply cannot imagine traveling without their beloved cat or parrot. The first stage of any train trip should begin with becoming familiar with the rules for transporting animals.

Container or bag for the animal

Carrying - the bag is suitable for urban public transport. For long-distance travel, a plastic container is required, because... Transportation of animals on the train is only permissible in a hard container.

You need to choose a carrier according to the size pet. He should be comfortable inside, he should be able to stand up completely and lie down freely. It is worth considering that many carriers allow the transportation of containers with dimensions of the sum of three sides no more than 180 cm, and in some cases no more than 120 cm.

Some container models also have wheels and a retractable handle for easy movement.

General principles for all directions and animals

JSC Russian Railways establishes rules for the transportation of animals (cats, dogs of any breed, birds, ferrets, chinchillas, lizards, etc.), according to which travel on suburban electric trains and on long-distance trains is paid for them.

Pay attention! Sometimes it may be necessary to buy an entire compartment to transfer the animal.

With a small pet, you need to pay a special fee at the station ticket office or on the Russian Railways website, get a baggage receipt and present it along with your ticket upon boarding.

Only domestic small animals and birds are allowed in the passenger carriage; wild animals must be transported in the baggage carriage.

Important! It is prohibited to transport animals that can harm the health of other passengers.

Carrying is hand luggage. If the allowed carry-on baggage allowance for each passenger is exceeded, you will be required to pay for the excess.

A guide dog wearing a collar and muzzle is allowed to travel next to a disabled person, regardless of the type of carriage, on an electric train, on long-distance trains and on high-speed trains. There is no need to pay anything additional. However, this only applies to travel through Russian territory.

It is the responsibility of the owner to monitor the pet and its portable container to ensure that the carriage is kept clean and free of unpleasant odors.

In 2018, transportation across the territory of the Russian Federation does not require obtaining a special veterinary certificate for a pet, except if the transportation is related to commercial activities.

When purchasing tickets online, you will see a paw icon next to the carriage information. Depending on whether this icon is crossed out or not, we can conclude whether Russian Railways is allowed to transport pets or not.

Please note ! If the train does not have a completely free compartment, traveling with animals is not allowed.

One large dog is allowed to be carried, muzzled and on a leash, with the constant supervision of the owner or another accompanying person.

How to take animals abroad

When going abroad with your four-legged pet, you need to clarify the transportation rules specifically for the country of destination. Because some countries may not only have strict entry rules, but even prohibit entry with one or another animal. For example, you can enter Norway with a dog only 21 days after the rabies vaccination.

Before the trip, every tourist must find information about what types of animals are allowed to be transported, clarify the list of required documents and certificates, find out about the need for a special microchip and all other conditions. In the CIS countries (Kazakhstan, Armenia, Ukraine, Belarus), a tourist with a pet will need to buy the entire compartment.

Good to know:

  • Some countries have introduced restrictions regarding the age of the imported pet. For example, you may not be allowed into some EU countries if the animal is less than three months old.
  • To countries South America and Saudi Arabia is prohibited from transporting any birds.
  • In some countries, the time spent with a pet in that country may be limited in time.

A few hours before the trip, it is worth giving your pet less food and liquid to avoid embarrassment.

The owner must also remember that any trip is stressful for the pet. He can bark and meow, which will cause inconvenience to other passengers. You should always have them in your bag special means on caring for the animal and its cage.

Once every 4-5 hours during train stops, it is necessary to walk the animal on a leash.

If possible, choose daytime flights for a smoother trip.

Traveling with a pet is not as troublesome as it might seem at first glance. Most trains allow pets, but the fees are not high. It is only important to study all the requirements in a timely manner, issue tickets, order the necessary services and prepare the pet for transportation.

It is also important to remember that the owner is responsible for his pet the entire time he is on the train and tries to make sure that other passengers are also comfortable being around.

*prices are current as of June 2018

The rules for transporting animals on a train are determined by order of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation No. 473 dated December 19, 2013. According to this document, pets can be transported both as carry-on luggage and as luggage, depending on the size and type of animal.

So, indoor dogs, cats and birds can travel on the train with their owners. Larger representatives of the fauna most often have to travel to their destination in a baggage car.

Russian Railways: transporting animals as hand luggage

Rules for the carriage of passengers, baggage and cargo luggage by rail(approved by Order of the Ministry of Transport No. 473) allow the passenger to take a small pet with him in the compartment, provided that it is in a special container or cage that prevents spontaneous opening. In this case, the maximum dimensions of the container based on the sum of 3 dimensions (height, length and width) are 180 centimeters. The exception is guide dogs and service dogs, which travel without any packaging, but must be muzzled and on a leash.

Transportation of animals is paid separately: for them you will have to purchase a travel document at the rate of 1 ticket per 1 free seat. At the same time, two pets can be placed in one place at once, if their size allows it. The ticket price is limited: no more than a quarter of the price of an adult ticket for this route. Only a guide dog accompanying a disabled passenger will travel free of charge. In this case, during the trip the dog will have to stay on the floor at the feet of its owner.

Transportation of large breed dogs together with the owner in a rigid compartment carriage is permitted only if a separate compartment is purchased. In this case, there is no need to pay additionally for the animal’s passage, but the dog, despite such autonomy, must still be wearing a collar and muzzle. On commuter trains, dogs can be transported in the vestibule under the close supervision of the owner; The fee for transporting an animal in such a situation will be charged separately.

Don't know your rights?

IMPORTANT!Animals can travel only in hard compartment carriages (that is, you cannot take your dog with you in a luxury carriage compartment). The only exceptions are guide dogs.

Russian Railways: rules for transporting animals in a baggage car

Almost all types of animals are accepted for transportation as baggage (even bees and rodents are allowed to be transported). However, the life and health of such valuable cargo is solely on the conscience of the owners; the carrier does not bear any responsibility for this.

Documents for transporting animals

Regardless of the type of railway service (suburban or long-distance), as well as the method of transporting the pet (luggage or hand luggage), animals are accepted for transportation only if they have veterinary documents.

Thus, in case of travel within Russia or between CIS member countries, a veterinary certificate of Form No. 1 will be required, which should be issued no earlier than 5 days before the trip - this is how long it is valid. If we are talking about moving an animal to foreign countries, the owner needs to take care of obtaining a veterinary certificate of form No. 5a.

IMPORTANT! A veterinary certificate can only be issued at a veterinary clinic that has the appropriate license.

On a Russian Railways train, in addition to a variety of hand luggage, you are allowed to carry small pets, dogs and birds. No more than one seat per passenger ticket, and no more than two animals per seat. At the same time, agricultural and wild animals, as well as insects, are not allowed to be taken into the carriage; they can only be transported in luggage compartment. Depending on the type of carriage and its class, transportation of animals can be free, with the purchase of the entire compartment, or with the purchase of a special ticket.

The cost of transporting small animals, birds and large dogs depends on the distance, but as of 2019 it cannot be less than 258 rubles (from 1 to 10 km) and no more than 3066.5 rubles (from 11901 to 12300 km).

What animals can be transported?

On Russian Railways trains (specifically, in carriages owned by JSC FPC), the following types of animals can be transported as hand luggage:

  • large dogs (only with a leash and muzzle);
  • small domestic and indoor animals in cages and other containers - cats, small dogs, ornamental pigs, fennec foxes;

  • animals are dirty and/or have an unpleasant odor;
  • wild (undomesticated) and farm animals;
  • sick and experimental animals;
  • animals not accustomed to long journeys in cages or containers;
  • animals that act restless or threatening.

Basic rules for transporting animals on trains

There are specific rules for transporting animals on long-distance trains that everyone must follow (no matter what kind of animal is being transported):

  • all small animals and birds must be transported only in containers, cages, terrariums or aquariums (with the exception of large breed dogs, which are transported independently, with a leash and muzzle);
  • the dimensions of containers for transporting animals should not exceed 180 cm (the sum of length, width and height);
  • containers and cages with animals are placed in those passenger seats that belong to their owners (they should not interfere with other passengers);
  • It is prohibited to transport animals that may be dangerous for passengers (dirty, sick, wild);
  • Animals are looked after exclusively by their owners during movement (cleaning and disinfection of containers, maintaining cleanliness in the seating area);
  • Animals should be fed moderately during the trip, and during long stays it is best to take them outside so that they relieve themselves in a special place;
  • If an animal demonstrates aggressive behavior and is also very noisy, then the handler has the right to prohibit its transportation.

To transport animals within Russia in 2019, no documents are required. The only thing you need to take with you is a travel ticket for the animal (if a separate fee is charged for its transportation). If the animal is transported outside the Russian Federation, then you will need to take care of it in advance. veterinary passport, vaccination records and certificate of his general condition health.

Transporting animals on high-speed trains

On the high-speed trains of JSC FPC, which owns the majority of all Russian cars, there are different rules for the transportation of animals. They depend both on their size and on the type and class of cars.

The main types of Russian high-speed trains:

  • "Swift". Transportation of animals is permitted in type 2B carriages (for a fee);
  • "Peregrine Falcon". Paid transportation of animals is allowed in economy class carriages, as well as in first and business class carriages equipped with special seats. Each animal must have its own travel document. A maximum of two animals (two birds) can be placed in one place. In large meeting compartments, it is allowed to transport 4 animals at once (if the compartment is fully purchased);
  • "Allegro". Paid transportation of animals in specially designated places;
  • "Martin". Carriage of animals is paid (in special places). There can be a maximum of two small pets per seat (a separate ticket must be purchased for each).

On trains of other passenger companies, the rules for transporting animals may vary greatly. Therefore, it is worth checking in advance whether the carriage for which you are purchasing a ticket has seats for “shaggy” passengers.

Tariffs for the transportation of animals from January 1, 2019

From the beginning of the new year 2019, when transporting small pets, birds and dogs on Russian Railways trains, a new tariff schedule will apply, which will replace the schedule in force since June 15, 2017. We are talking, of course, about increasing fees. These tariffs apply only to the transportation of the specified groups of animals in reserved seat carriages, separate compartments of rigid type carriages and in carriages with seats on long-distance trains.

The cost of transporting animals on trains of this type depends only on the distance, that is, on the duration and distance of transportation. There are several dozen tariff zones, each of which has its own fee. We present the corresponding table, the data from which is taken from the official website of Russian Railways.

Transporting animals abroad by Russian Railways train

Rules for transporting animals on Russian Railways trains outside Russian Federation depend on the laws adopted in a particular country. Before traveling abroad, it is worth considering a number of factors that may affect the rules for importing animals:

  • Type of animal. Some exotic animals may not be allowed into a particular country;
  • Certificate of vaccinations and deworming. When importing animals into many countries without these medical documents it won’t be possible to get by;
  • Availability of other documents for the animal (for example, about his general health and the degree of danger to people around him);
  • Presence of a chip. There are states that prohibit the import of unchipped pets into their territory.

Importing animals into neighboring countries and CIS countries rarely presents any difficulties. But, for example, the import of pets to Norway or the UK is completely prohibited. Therefore, before purchasing a ticket for yourself and your beloved animal, you should clarify in advance what laws regarding the import of animals apply in the country you need to travel to.

Animals on Russian Railways commuter trains

Small dogs on commuter trains are allowed to be transported without containers, but must be muzzled and under the close attention of their owners. Cats can also be transported without containers. For large dogs, in addition to muzzles, a short leash is also required. They are allowed to be transported in vestibules (no more than two dogs per carriage).

There is a fee for transporting small and large pets, including birds, on commuter trains. But you do not need to present any veterinary documents. A travel ticket is sufficient, which is purchased separately for each animal.

There are rules for transporting animals on Russian Railways. It's about them we'll talk in our article. These rules will be useful for those people who like to travel with their pets. Knowing them, you can travel with your pets without any problems.

Transportation of pets on Russian Railways on long-distance trains is permitted. You can take small pets, dogs, birds and cats with you. But their number should not exceed two per place. Small animals may be subject to additional charges. It is also possible that you will need to buy back the coupe. Sometimes, when purchasing a ticket online, a user near the carriage can see a gray carriage with a claw inside. This sign indicates that pets are allowed here. If the image is crossed out in red, then their transportation is prohibited.

Features of transporting animals of different sizes on trains

When transporting animals on Russian Railways, their owners are obliged to ensure compliance with the sanitary and hygienic regime on the train.

Large dogs transported in a muzzle, on a leash and in a separate compartment of a compartment car with payment for the cost of all seats. There is no need to pay additionally for transporting an animal (buy a baggage ticket for it). In this case, the number of dogs and owners in the compartment should not exceed total number places

How can you tell if your dog is large or small? If it fits into a carrier whose dimensions in the sum of 3 dimensions do not exceed 180 cm, then your pet belongs to the second category.

Please note that you cannot transport birds or animals that may threaten the lives of passengers or railway employees.

To transport animals across the territory of the Russian Federation there is no need to register veterinary document, its presentation is not required.
